It is an established fact now,that the body of living organisms is made up of tiny units called cell . In simple words the cells are building blocks of the body of living organisms

Robert Hooke in (1665) observed a thin slice of crock under a self made simple microscope

He saw that the slice of crock resembled the structure of a honey comb.it was made up of many little compartments.  Robert Hooke named these small compartments or boxes 'cells'.
